The last few days have been rainy and glum, but earlier in the week, the sun was strong and the camera was charged and this little flutterby was begging for a photo shoot.

The weather was gorgeous yesterday. Still a bit chilly and windy, but the sun was beaming and there wasn't a cloud in the sky.

We headed out to Manassas National Battlefield Park after soccer, and spent the day roaming the historic sites. Manassas (or Bull Run) was the site of two different Civil War battles, both victories for the Confederates. It's the place where "Stonewall" Jackson (literally) made his name..."There stands Jackson like a stone wall."

I'll write more about it later, but I wanted to share this shot with you. The sun was so bright and the shadows it cast were so very crisp. This cannon caught my eye and shouted out "Shadow Shot Sunday!" to me. For more fabulous shadow shots, visit HeyHarriet! and click on the links!

Shadow Shot Sidewalk

While I'm technically posting this on Saturday, it is Sunday in Australia, where the project originates, and therefore it is still a Shadow Shot Sunday post...

The boys and I are heading south tomorrow, so I had to go ahead and get this posted. We will be traveling the entire month of November, it seems (I keep writing that as "Novembeer." I wonder if I'm trying to send a subliminal message to myself...)

Anyhow - Dr. SmartyPants and I are off for a few days of alone time - first we've had since...uhm...well...summer of 2008? Something like that. We'll be making our way to Orlando for his big black tie banquet award smarty pants thing there, which means I'll be setting aside my usual yoga pants, t-shirt and bare feet for an evening gown and (freakin awesome) high heels. I'll be sure to document the occasion with an overabundance of photographs.

Because that just doesn't happen every day.

We'll hang in Knoxville the next week, then we'll be off to Alabama for all the Thanksgiving festivities. I cannot even believe that it is time to write that sentence.

Thanksgiving, people.

That's just around the corner from Christmas.

Dang.

Shadow Shot Serendipity

I had taken a couple of photos while I was out drawing yesterday. Some of them were even specifically for the purpose of using for Shadow Shot Sunday. This one, however, was just because of the character of the guy - what an interesting face, surrounded by those white dreadlocks!

When I got home and started looking through my photographs - this is the one that popped out - the one that had such amazing shadows...a bit of serendipity for a Sunday morning...
