Karen - I actually prefer them to NOT smile - I think it makes them look more natural...if I catch a smile, it's usually very candid and non-forced. Something happens to (at least my) boys about this age, and all their smiles look like they just ate something that tasted really bad...
I sleep better when I hear the long lonely night sound of a train whistle too. There is something deeply comforting about it...I think Derek put his finger on exactly what that something is. Smart guy you got there mom.
