It's something I constantly point out to myself and my students. The chroma can be bright enough to fool us into thinking it's a light color, when in fact it's quite a bit darker than we think. Yellow and orange are famous for fooling me, though blue can do it, too--often in the other direction. Blue masquerades as darker than I think.

Take your photo into grayscale (a less than perfect means of determining value, but one I use rather frequently) and see how dark the shadows are and how light the sky is. I was blown away! In looking at the photo I'd have said the blue was darker than the shadowy leaves, but it really isn't. That also fits the theory that the blue of the sky is lighter than we think.

May I save this one and share it with my landscape students? (With credit to you, of course!)

Gorgeous shot, BTW. :)Deborahhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12576820565521582322noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-14631216.post-18973229651314607982009-10-25T10:42:17.744-04:002009-10-25T10:42:17.744-04:00gorgeous color and POVgorgeous color and POVCharhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03851293154388793520noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-14631216.post-54247111781648282832009-10-25T09:44:12.145-04:002009-10-25T09:44:12.145-04:00oh yes, that's cool!
